Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker wasn't the huge epic we may have wanted but it was very thrilling, full of fan servicing excitement, and twists, that made it a satisfying ending to the Skywalker Saga.
Rise of Skywalker finds our heroes desperate for way to defeat the first order after news of Emperor Palpatine arises. With Palpatine comes a dangerous new threat and the only way to stop it is to stop the emperor himself, once and for all.
To some Rise of Skywalker will be a bit of a breath of fresh air after the divisive Last Jedi. Rise of Skywalker can be seen as a retcon of the Last Jedi. In many ways the decisions made in Last Jedi that fans didn't necessarily love were "fixed" in this finale. That can be seen with this very line coming from Adam Driver's Kylo Ren to Daisy Ridley's Rey, "Your parents were nothing, because they chose to be nothing" in contrast to Kylo telling Rey that her parents were just nobodies who didn't matter In the Last Jedi.
John Boyega and Oscar Issac's buddy relationship was a highlight of the film, their camaraderie and chemistry shone through every chance it got. It was great seeing more backstory on everyone and seeing older characters like C3PO and even Lando Calrissian having a bigger role.
Rise of Skywalker was a tad convoluted and rushed, and a story that did feel thrown together to fix the Last Jedi, but it was a good thrown together story. It was enjoyable to see Rey as a strong Jedi, the crew, Rey, Finn, Poe, BB8 and Chewbaca back together instead of separated for the whole movie. It was a fun ride and a satisfying end to this new trilogy that answers all of our questions while also giving us some new ones. As always, I'm looking forward to seeing where the Star Wars saga goes next.
Aside from music I have a deep love for film and television. I love movies and here you can check out my opinion on various movies and shows that release, if you want an everyman's opinion.
